대단위 아파트의 건설로 인한 중앙난방 System이나 열병합 발전소의 폐열을 이용한 지역난방 System에서 하나의 대형 Main pump로 각 Sub-Station별, 아파트 동별, 층별등 각 구역별로 유량을 배분하게 되는데 이때에 각 구역별로 상이한 차압이 발생하게 됨으로 각 구역별로 유량의 불균형을 초래하여 열원이 충분함에도 불구하고 효과적인 냉.난방이 되기 어렵다. 따라서 이러한 유량의 불균형을 방지하고 적절한 유량을 분배하기 위한 여러 가지 방법이 개발되었으며 그중 한가지 방법이 분지관에 차압유량조절밸브를 설치하여 기계실내에 부하 전,후에서의 차압을 항상 일정하게 유지시킴으로써 일정한 유량을 분배하는 방법이다.
